Camel Club is a community for people who love Rock, Cornwall. We take your privacy as seriously as we take the tide times. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we'll never do with it — in plain English, because paperwork should be short.
1. Who we are
Camel Club ("we", "us", "the club") operates camelclub.co and the @camelclub.co Instagram account. We are the data controller for the information you give us. To contact us about your data: DM @camelclub.co or email us via the address on our Instagram profile.
2. What we collect
- What you give us on the membership form: your first name, email address, your relationship to Rock (owner, renter, local, etc.), your content preferences, when you typically visit, and anything you write in the suggestion box.
- What arrives automatically: our form provider (Formspree) and hosting provider record basic technical data such as IP address and browser type for security and spam prevention. We don't use tracking cookies or analytics pixels on this site.
- On Instagram: if you interact with our account, that interaction is governed by Meta's own privacy policy, not this one.
3. Why we collect it (our lawful basis)
- To send you the Rock Report and club updates you asked for — with your consent, which you give by submitting the form.
- To tailor what we send you to the preferences you ticked — our legitimate interest in not boring you.
- To understand our membership in aggregate (how many renters vs owners, which topics people want) so the club serves it better.
4. What we will never do
- We will never sell your details. To anyone. Ever.
- We will never pass your details to third parties for their own marketing.
- We will never post, share or reveal who our members are.
What's said on the sandbar stays on the sandbar.
5. Who processes your data for us
We use a small number of carefully chosen services to run the club: Formspree (form handling), our website host, and an email newsletter service to send the Rock Report. Each processes your data only on our instructions and under their own GDPR-compliant terms. If we ever partner with local businesses for offers, you'll hear about the offer from us — your details never go to them.
6. How long we keep it
For as long as you're a member. If you unsubscribe, we remove you from the mailing list immediately and delete your membership record within 30 days. We may keep anonymised, aggregated statistics (e.g. "40% of members are renters") indefinitely.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your data, to object to or restrict our processing of it, and to withdraw consent at any time. Every email we send includes one-click unsubscribe. For anything else, contact us and we'll sort it — usually faster than the ferry.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk — though we'd rather you told us first.
8. Children
The club is for adults. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16; if you believe we have, contact us and we'll delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy meaningfully, we'll tell members by email before the change takes effect. The date at the top always shows the current version.
